Outpatient Surgery and Orthopedic Clinic
The Outpatient Surgery and Orthopedic Clinic in Santa Monica embodies early California Modernist principles while incorporating extensive sustainable and green-building strategies. The design concept emphasizes that a more natural and less clinical environment fosters patient healing and enhances productivity among doctors and staff.
Key design features include creating a distinctive building mass, maximizing natural daylight and ventilation throughout the facility, and establishing a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The project is positioned to achieve LEED Platinum Certification for New Construction.
To support patient healing and staff productivity, the design includes features that promote a natural, light-filled environment with a strong indoor-outdoor connection. Every opportunity to bring sunlight deep into the building's core has been explored. A light-filled deck on the third floor faces southwest, providing stunning views of the ocean and city. This deck connects to a staff lounge and conference area, serving as both a break room and a teaching venue for students and interns.
The main entrance along 19th Street features an expansive three-story lobby that is flooded with natural light. This lobby is enclosed by a full-height, mullion-free glazing system, allowing sunlight to fill the central common area of the building.
